About Madeira House

Sleeps 8 (+ 2 in family room)

 

This spacious Grade ll listed building (built in 1847) provides an ideal base for family holidays - just a 2 minute, flat walk to Ryde’s superb sandy beach and many attractions.

 

This large, recently completely renovated house has three freshly decorated bedrooms upstairs comprising of:

the airy main bedroom, with a king sized bed in the circular bay window which has an en-suite shower room, basin and toilet (and the space for up to two more beds if needed). This room has a TV and DVD player.

There are two further twin-bedrooms and a luxurious, brand new family shower/bathroom.

On the main entry floor is the new roomy, fully fitted breakfast/kitchen room with a dishwasher, fridge, freezer, gas hob, electric oven, microwave, toaster, slow cooker and TV with Freeview. There is a 4 stool breakfast bar plus a table with benches in this spacious room.

 Across the open hall is a large, comfortable sitting room with a small balcony accessed through window. This room has two large sofas and an armchair, TV (with Freeview) and a DVD player.

The fourth twin bedroom and the cloakroom (with washing machine and dryer for your use) are also off this downstairs hallway.

There is constant hot water and the central heating is under your control. All bed linen is provided. Please ask for towels. There is no extra charge for these amenities.

 

Parking is on the road in front of the house and we will provide you with free visitor’s parking tickets for the duration of your stay, which you display on the dashboard of your car.

 

Madeira House is conveniently near the Esplanade with a heated open air swimming pool, Canoe Lake , children’s water park and Appley Park and the glorious beach. A stroll in the other direction brings you to Ryde marina, the bowling alley, ice rink, a children’s funfair, crazy golf, bowls greens, the Balcony nightclub,  Ryde Castle and the town of Ryde itself, where there is a choice of many excellent shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars.

 

The local shops, (less than a 100yds) provide a newsagent, a grocery shop, a fish and chip shop, a laundrette, cafe, locksmiths and pub. Another local pub provides food –Sunday lunch included. There is a park behind the house with ample space for footballs etc. The Chinese take away/restaurant is at the end of the road - Life is very easy at Madeira House, you don’t even need to move the car!

 

The jet foil leaves every 30 minutes from Ryde pier to Portsmouth and Gun wharf Quays (outlet stores) and the Hovercraft to Southsea (Aquarium and funfair). From the bus station you can catch the open topped bus for a trip around the island or to any Island destination of your choice. The taxi rank is here as well. The train line terminates in Sandown. All are within a short walking distance of Madeira House.

A visitors’ information booklet contains emergency numbers, instructions for appliances, safety checks, risk assessments and local attractions.

There are 10 steps up to the front door which may restrict access for some people.

Cots and cot bedding are not provided due to health & safety restrictions but can be hired if needed.

Please note that all windows are sash windows, and for safety should be opened by sliding the top window down, not the lower window up. For the safety of children, windows are fitted with locks.

No broadband or Sky; Freeview is available
